Pistol
Dizzy
e.g. 1.30 Ascot
Knight Error
Bob's Return
£10 SFC Treble

3 pairs of SFC doubles
3 races = 1.00 Ayr, 1.20 Lingfield and 1.30 Ascot

In all cases, it is the number of races that determines the number

| Combination
Forecasts : |
This bet involves 3 or more selections in a race, with any 2
to finish 1st and 2nd in any order
e.g.
3.20 Lingfield
Dizzy
Pistol
Stomp
£10 Combination forecast (or CFC) = £60
That's 6 x £10 Forecasts
| 1st |

| Dizzy |
Pistol |
| Dizzy |
Stomp |
| Pistol |
Dizzy |
| Pistol |
Stomp |
| Stomp |
Dizzy |
| Stomp |
Pistol |
|
The easiest way to calculate the number of bets in a CFC is:
No. of Selections x Preceding number
So, for 3 selections, 3 x 2 = 6
If you picked 5 selections in a race, you would have 20 combination
forecast bets (5 x 4 = 20). |
| |
| Combination
Forecast Doubles and Trebles : |
| Combination Forecast (CFC) Doubles give you a better chance
of getting a winning Forecast Double or Forecast Treble because
you choose more than 2 selections in each race. To win you must
have included the first two finishers in 2 races for doubles or
3 races for trebles.

| Tricasts
: |
Tricasts are only accepted on: Horses: Handicap
races with 6 or more runners |
| |
| Straight
Tricasts : |
This bet involves 3 selections in a race finishing 1st, 2nd
and 3rd in the order named. (The closest equivalent to a Tricast
in many countries is a Trifecta or a Tierce).
e.g.
3.40 Ascot
Magoo
Ashinta
Daisy
£10 Straight Tricast (STC or TC)
1 stake unit = £10.00
1 race = 3.40 Ascot
3 selections
The first selection must be placed 1st.
The second selection must be placed 2nd.
The third selection must be placed 3rd. |
| |
| Combination
Tricasts : |
This bet involves 3 or more selections in a race finishing 1st,
2nd and 3rd in any order.
e.g.
3.40 Ascot
Magoo
Ashinta
Daisy
Warfield
To calculate the number of bets in a Combination Tricast:
No. of selections x 2 preceding numbers
In this example, a £10 Combination Tricast (CTC) would cost
£240.
That's 4 x 3 x 2 = 24 bets. |
| |
| Permutations
: |
| It is also possible to 'perm' selections. For example, if you
have made 3 selections (A, B and C) you can 'perm' all the possible
doubles. In this case all the doubles possible are AB, AC, and
BC; a total of 3 individual bets, or lines.
Similarly, if you have made 4 selections (A, B, C and D) you
can also 'perm' all the possible doubles from these four. Now
the doubles are AB, AC, AD, BC, BD, CD; a total of 6 individual
bets, or lines. |
| |
| Calculating
Your Winnings : |
| Bookmakers' Prices and Calculating Your Winnings
The prices or 'odds' displayed (eg 4.50) refer to
the dividend or return you would get from a unit stake ie £1.00.
For example, if you place £10.00 on a team to
win at 4.50 you will collect £45.00 (£10.00 x 4.50)
if they are successful. That means you make a £35.00 profit,
because your original stake of £10.00 is included in the
total.
Similarly £10.00 on a winner at 1.70 would return
£17.00. That's £7.00 profit plus your £10.00
stake returned.
If you want to win big for a relatively small stake, 'accumulator'
style bets are particularly popular. These bets feature a number
of selections with winnings from one successful selection being
re-invested on your other selections. Potential winnings can be
enormous and are very easy to calculate.
Simply multiply the dividend of each selection with your stake
to arrive at your expected payout if all your picks are successful.
For example, a £10.00 treble on:
Liverpool to beat Manchester United at 1.75;
Denver Broncos to beat Minnesota at 2.25;
and the Lennox Lewis v Evander Holyfield to end in a draw
at 34.00;
would return £1338.75 That's £10.00 x 1.75 x 2.25
x 34.00
Accumulators with more selections are calculated in exactly
the same way, but with each additional selection's price multiplying
the returns. As you can see, the winnings can soon mount up to
jackpot proportions! |
