Digital rights firm Premium TV has inked a deal with horse racing TV channel Racing UK and the Racing Post. The deal means UK horse racing fans will be able to place a bet while watching live events on broadband.
This is the first time that betting enthusiasts have been able to bet in this way on UK racing events such as Cheltenham, The Grand National at Aintree and the Epsom Derby.
The £300,000 per annum contract was awarded to Premium TV after a competitive tender. Four thousand live races will be broadcast in full each year from Racing UK’s 31 race courses.
Simon Bazalgette, executive chairman of Racing UK said: “Our partnership with the Racing Post is a powerful combination of video and data which will allow horseracing punters to study form, view live races and bet via the internet.”
The service launches with five partner bookmakers - Bet365, Blue Square, Ladbrokes, The Tote and VCbet, the fixed odds betting arm of Victor Chandler.
It will be available through a Racing UK and Racing Post co-branded website, to be launched later this year.
Bookmaker partners will integrate Racing UK’s live footage into their existing websites and will also have branding and prices displayed on the co-branded site, which is expected to go live by mid October 2010.
A 3G mobile service will also be developed in the next few months.
Jeremy Reed, managing director of Trinity Mirror’s Sports division, owners of the Racing Post, said: “Online betting turnover on horse racing in the UK tops £500m per annum and is rising fast thanks to the increasing number of broadband users, which is now thought to be over 7 million."

How to view a live race...

Place your bets via the VC Bet website in the normal manner. Your total stake must be at least £5 for each race you wish to view.
After you have placed your bets return to the Horse Racing index screen and you will see a small Horse Racing icon by each race you have qualified to watch live.
Click on the icon and a pop-up window will launch (if you have a pop-up blocker make sure it is switched off).
Sit back and enjoy the race!

totesport.com introduce live racing via webcasting

Totesport.com has linked up with Racing UK to provide its customers with live racing action via its website. Users simply place a minimum stake of £5 per race in order to see all the action and results as they happen without needing to leave their office, house or internet café. The service also allows customers to watch the live action if they have placed a multiple bet such as a toteplacepot or accumulator depending on a simple calculation.
