Chandler have eased England to 4/7 from 1/2 for
the Six Nations Championship after it was announced that star
man Jonny Wilkinson will miss the entire campaign through injury.
The Newcastle fly-half is to undergo an operation on his right
shoulder on Wednesday and is expected to need at least six weeks
to recover.
"This is a very big setback for England indeed because
the crunch game looks like being against France and that will
take place in Paris this year," commented the firm's rugby
odds compiler Ted Baker.
"With Wilkinson in the side I would probably have set
England a handicap of minus five for the Stade France clash,
but without him I might possibly make the match a level handicap,"
he said.
Accordingly, France's outright odds have shifted from 6/4 to
5/4.
England are already without first teamers Charlie Hodgson, Julian
White, Mike Tindall and Stuart Abbott for their opening match
in Rome against Italy next Sunday.
With Wilkinson out and second choice stand-off Hodgson injured
coach Sir Clive Woodward is expected to select either Alex King,
Paul Grayson or Olly Barkley for the No10 jersey.
Six Nations outright odds:
England 4/7, France 5/4, Ireland 20/1, Wales 28/1, Scotland
150/1, Italy 5,000/1.
